This elementary piece in 4/4 meter frequently alternates phrases of staccato and legato. The modal tonality is enhanced through multiple accidentals that serve as an excellent study in reading sharps and naturals. The steps, skips, varied dynamics, and adventure-like modal sound help the music portray the foreign world of teeny creatures and objects observed through a microscope. An optional duet accompaniment provides a solid harmonic foundation.
