Sonata for Clarinet and Piano
By Felix Mendelssohn
Woodwind - B-flat Clarinet Solo
This Sonata should constitute a valuable addition to the limited literature originally written for the clarinet. Published here for the first time, the piece will be welcome material for the intermediate grade. The slow movement, which may well be performed alone, requires a minimum of technical facility, and may be played by the young serious student of the clarinet. The Sonata shows the freshness, melodiousness and fluidity of the composer's early style. Mendelssohn did not prepare the Sonata for publication, therefore, it was necessary to make a few minor cuts in each movement in order to achieve a certain balance of form.
